The Installation of Flange Gaskets
Do You Know About the Installation of Flange Gaskets?

The leakage is an inevitable problem, as each pipeline will suffer from mechanical fatigue and corrosion during continuous use, resulting in certain gaps at the connection ports of the pipeline. This leakage may cause significant losses to pipeline transportation, especially in large-scale pipeline construction. If a leakage occurs, it may stop the transportation of important resources. In order to solve the leakage problem, most pipeline construction currently uses better flanges and flange gaskets. Therefore, the installation of flanges and flange gaskets is particularly important. However, many people do not know much about flanges and flange gaskets. They also do not know how to install flange gaskets. Today, let's learn about the installation knowledge of flange gaskets together.

1. Ripple pattern
The pattern represents the rough pattern on the surface of the flange, such as multi-directional, spiral, serrated, etc. It is processed into concentric circles or spirals to make the surface roughness as consistent as possible with the centerline of the gasket. Of course, it should be noted that the gasket should not be directly installed on the flange surface. The installation method and type of sealing gasket are also important. Directly installing the flange sealing gasket can cause pipeline leakage.

2. Waveform degrees
The waveform degree refers to the deviation from the overall flatness, which usually does not require consideration of wavefront issues. However, excessively large waveforms are also a difficult problem to solve. Therefore, sometimes special attention should be paid to glass lined equipment, which can cause significant ripples in the natural flow of molten glass. Under high bolt torque, the glass lined flange is also prone to deformation. If the flange warps, it is likely caused by thermal deformation or internal stress. The flange can be subjected to secondary processing. When the bolt load is too large or the flange thickness is not enough, it is usually called bow deformation. The solution is to use a higher performance flange to strengthen the structure through reinforcement.

3. Roughness
Starting from the midpoint of the flange surface, the unit of measurement is micrometers. The surface roughness of serrated flanges is usually 125 to 500 micrometers. If the flange is too thick, a regular gasket should be used for sealing. At this time, soft pieces should be selected as much as possible. On the other hand, high-precision flange surfaces such as grinding surfaces are also difficult to seal, and the sealing surface must have sufficient friction to prevent gasket rupture, compression, and excessive creep.

The above is the knowledge about flange gasket installation. We must pay attention when using flange gaskets. Of course, it is not that after using flange gaskets, the flange will definitely not leak, but rather it relatively reduces the probability of flange leakage. When using flanges, we must remember to regularly inspect and maintain them. Once any leakage or corrosion is found, the corroded parts should be cleaned in a timely to make pipeline engineering more reliable.
